Ioan Oldfield European MTB Champs – Pila, Italy 20-24 August 2019

The course wasn’t very technical. The TT was fast and furious with only 13 seconds between the leader and my place of 66. This meant that I was placed 66th on the grid for the cross country race on Saturday.

I was teamed up with Mirta from Croatia and Ben from England. We were gridded 43rd on the start line of the team relay and I rode the first leg. It was very congested and I ended you running a lot of the lap but finished the lap in 28th. We finished the race in 40th. It was a good experience and definitely helped to know how frantic the races were.

I was gridded on the 6th row for the individual crossed county race. The start was fast and intially there was a lot of congestions at the pinch points. I worked may way past a few riders before being sick on the second lap and someone taking my front wheel out.

I finished in 45th position. I really enjoyed the experience and I have learned a lot.
