British National MTB XC Championship – Cannock chase – Holly Bradbrook

This was my first National championship so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Turning up late I could only do one lap before the first race started however later the course opened again for practice so I took the opportunity to go around again.

The course was technical and quite disorientating with slippery roots on the woods, steep climbs and muddy descents.

Sunday morning I warmed  up for 20min before waiting nervously to be gridded, I was gridded last as I had only done one other BC national series race and I was told I would have to complete 2 laps. I had a good start getting into the first section with 3 people behind me. I managed to stay in this position for the rest of the lap. On the second half of the last lap one of the girls I had previously passed got back past me, I managed to stay on her wheel until I crashed on one of the descents, I quickly jumped back up and chased to try and catch her as I knew I was stronger than her on the climbs, we came to the final straight but I was unable to close the gap on her.

I am really please that I finished 15th in my first National championship, I know I need to work on my confidence as I hope to do the series next year.

Thanks to my Mum and Dad for taking me over the weekend.
