National trophy round 5 Shrewsbury
By Holly Bradbrook
This was the last round of the British cycling National trophy series, but my first race at this level. The course was very muddy everywhere with a large section in the woods and on grass including short sections of tarmac and a flight of steps.
My race went well, but with 40 other girls in my race, 21 in my age category, there was a lot of competition. I started well by passing a few riders as I had to start at the back of the grid, the wooded section was really cut up following the over 40s race and this made it really technical. During the race I needed 2 bikes because they were getting clogged with mud every lap, so thank you to my dad for being pitman and to my sister for letting me use her bike as a spare. I finished 13th in the under 14 girls which I can say I’m really pleased about.
Next year I hope to compete in more rounds of the National trophy series.
